Alexis García, DVM, DACLAM
Founder & Principal Advisor
Dr. Alexis García is a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (DACLAM), the highest credential in laboratory animal medicine, and a licensed veterinarian in Massachusetts and Florida with 25+ years of experience at the intersection of comparative medicine, pharmaceutical drug development, and regulatory compliance.
Dr. García's career spans three distinctive pillars that together define NonClinicalOps Advisors' unique value proposition:
MIT Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM)
Dr. García spent 15+ years at MIT's Division of Comparative Medicine as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Scientist, Senior Staff Veterinarian, and Manager of the Transgenic Core Facility, one of the most rigorous academic vivarium environments in the world. During this time Dr. García directed production of genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs), oversaw surgical programs, reviewed scientific protocols for MIT's Committee on Animal Care (IACUC), and conducted translational research resulting in 30 peer-reviewed publications including two book chapters in the definitive reference Laboratory Animal Medicine (3rd and 4th editions). Three publications were featured on the covers of leading scientific journals.
Merck Research Laboratories (MRL)
As Associate Principal Scientist and Clinical Veterinarian at Merck's Boston site, Dr. García provided veterinary oversight and nonclinical advisory support across oncology, neuroscience, immunology, and cardiovascular therapeutic areas. Serving as Alternate Attending Veterinarian and IACUC reviewer, and as Vice Chair of the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Dr. García collaborated directly with research teams to optimize animal models, advance drug development programs, and ensure compliance with institutional and industry standards.
Vivarium Direction and Clinical Practice
As Director of the Vivarium at the University of Puerto Rico's Molecular Sciences Research Center, Dr. García assisted in vivarium design, development of the animal care program, and served as IBC Chair. Prior clinical experience in small animal practice, managing routine wellness, internal medicine, dermatology, and infectious disease cases in dogs and cats, provides a direct bridge to companion animal health and animal health product development advisory.
